How to properly prepare for moving to another apartment

Many who are about to change their place of residence and move things to a new apartment ask themselves a reasonable question: “When do you need to start preparing for this?”

In order not to forget anything and avoid fuss in this important process, experts recommend thinking about it in about a month. It is possible to carry out training camps in a week or even in a day, but such options are usually associated with a lot of stress and the risk of forgetting something important.

Today, Seattle Moving Services gave our readers some tips about moving to another apartment. They, like no one else, know how to properly prepare for this event because they are real professionals in their field.

The initial stage of preparation

When there are about 30 days left before the scheduled move date, there are some ongoing issues that need to be taken care of.

  • If you are renting an apartment, pay your existing utility bills and eliminate arrears. The lease will also need to be terminated by notifying the owner within the agreed time frame that you are moving out.
  • Contact the relocation company and all related work. Enter into a formal contract, fixing the date of completion and the cost of services.
  • Also, keep notes in a notebook or mobile phone regarding the upcoming move. Make an inventory of the property and plan what and when you will pack for shipment.

If you don’t need some pieces of furniture or accessories in a new place, you can quickly sell them via the Internet or other ad services. Better not to overstate the prices – this will allow you to find buyers faster.

Conduct a thorough audit of the existing property: go through all the closets and pantries, decide what you will take with you.

Go looking for boxes. You can ask for them in supermarkets or markets, or you can use the packaging materials provided by the company that will transport your property to another apartment.

What to do a week before moving

The last 7 days before moving are usually the busiest and most intense.

  • Begin the analysis of clothes with the one that is now worn out of season. Sort it out and fold it neatly. It is recommended to wash and dry thoroughly before packing.
  • The dishes and kitchen utensils should also be packed in advance, and for the remaining days, purchase a set of plastic utensils or leave a few essentials.
  • Do not make large purchases or stocks, try to use up the groceries available at home as much as possible.

The last day before moving

  • If you live with a family, send relatives and pets to the country, on a visit or on a big vacation. Defrost the refrigerator, and after it dries, fix the doors with tape. Then you can wrap it in film or cloth.
  • Pack your backpack or bag with your personal belongings: documents, money, a cosmetic bag, a pair of spare shoes, a phone, a charger, etc.
  • Think of your daily bread: prepare yourself a meal for the day and pack it in a container or cooler bag. Tea and coffee bags, sugar, salt, and other essential items should also be on hand.
  • Meet the movers of the company at the appointed time and just watch the process: professionals know their job better!
