The history of the emergence of slot machines

Slot machines very quickly gained recognition in gaming centers and in casinos around the world, because in the slot machines, the player doesn’t need special skills, but absolutely everything depends only on the luck and fortune.

In the late 1890s, began to appear a game mechanisms very similar to modern slot machines. These were machines with a huge wheel or reels, on which many colors and cards were applied. The object of all those games was guessing the card or color that will fall out after the rotation of the wheel or reels.

From the first days of their existence, gaming machines had to constantly defend their “right to life”. Numerous local and federal decrees and laws prohibiting gaming machines were issued in the US every year.

As a result, owners of machines had to go into all sorts of tricks. For example, “Liberty Bell”, thanks to the addition of a special device, turned into a chewing gum vending machine.

The buyer, pulling a special handle, could win a prize if a winning combination was developed during the rotation of the reels. New symbols were applied to the reels of the machine – plums, oranges, lemons, mint, cherries, corresponding to the most popular chewing gum tastes, as well as images of labels on packages (BAR).

The maximum win was paid for a combination of three labels. Such machines began to be called fruit-machines. The trick with fruits increased sales (machines were put in stores and public places where cards were not allowed).

Since then, these pictures are present on the reels of modern slot machines almost unchanged. Only a bright label turned into a simple rectangle with the inscription BAR. Over the decades, these symbols have become a kind of international language – players all over the world know that lemon means losing, three oranges – winning 10 coins, and three BAR – “Jackpot”.

The original term “slot machine” was used to mean both slot machines and vending machines. Both of them had identical slots. But later, the term “slot machine” was fixed precisely for those machines that in exchange for a coin did not provide goods, but made it possible to play a game.

But progress does not stop and now you don’t need any coins, and slot machines – you can play them for free for at least the whole day, are available to all of us on the Internet.
